Yorkshire Lawyer of the Year Calls for Nominations for the 2008 Awards

Last year's winner of the Yorkshire Lawyer of the Year Award, Roger Dixon of Hague & Dixon, has called on legal firms throughout the region to take part in the 2008 Awards.

"I was completely taken aback last year when the award was given to me; it was a wholly unexpected but much-treasured accolade," commented Roger Dixon, Solicitor and Partner at Hague & Dixon's Stamford Bridge office. "Sometimes smaller firms in the region may feel that they are overshadowed by the larger firms in the area, but I am a passionate believer in the future of all sizes of concerns; each has a part to play in the delivery of legal services within Yorkshire. Rather than a personal accolade, I see the award as recognition of the significance of the contribution made by High Street practice in the overall scheme of things. The Yorkshire Lawyer Awards provide the profession with an opportunity to highlight publicly the role played by solicitors throughout the regional legal community, irrespective of the size of firm and the area of law in which they may be involved!"

Roger completed his law exams at Guildford Law College and qualified as a solicitor 36 years ago. He immediately joined the family firm of Hague & Dixon and was admitted into Partnership in November 1972. Roger specialises in the areas of Wills, probate and trusts; property law; and partnerships. He is a past President of the Yorkshire Law Society, former Deputy District Judge, has served on the Council of the Law Society and is a Member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners.

"We chose Roger because of his great contribution to the legal community in Yorkshire. As well as being an outstanding lawyer, he is a tireless ambassador for the profession," explained Peter McCormick, one of the Judges and Joint President of the awards. "We look forward to celebrating the strength of the region's legal achievements again at this year's awards - it is a chance to recognise and reward hard work and talent throughout the legal community in Yorkshire."

Nominations for this year's awards are open until 30th June; both individuals and firms are invited to nominate themselves or others. Nomination forms can be downloaded from www.yorkshirelawyerawards.co.uk. Organised by Barker Brooks Media, the much sought-after awards are now in their eighth year. They will culminate in a prestigious ceremony and dinner at Rudding House, Harrogate, on 25th September when professionals will come together to network and socialise. Already, half of the available tickets have been sold; to book your place, ring Julia Todd on (01423) 851157.

As well as the coveted title of Yorkshire Lawyer of the Year, other categories include Law Firm Award (under and over 30 partners); Specialist Law Firm Award; Rising Star Award; Private Client Award; Corporate Finance Award; Real Estate Award; Dispute Resolution Award; and Enterprise Award. In addition, for the first time, a prestigious Presidents' Award will be presented by joint presidents, Peter McCormick and Jeremy Shulman, honouring legal excellence in Yorkshire.

The awards are organised by Barker Brooks Media Ltd and supported by the Leeds Law Society, in association with the headline sponsor, Wesleyan for Lawyers. Other sponsors include PSG; Henderson Insurance Brokers; Data Genetics International; Conveyancing Liability Solutions; Search Flow; Fraser & Fraser; Olympus; Intaforensics; Oyezstraker Group and TheBusinessDesk.com. There are still opportunities to sponsor some of the individual awards categories including Corporate Finance Award.
