Leading youth careers magazine, ETC, has come of age with the publication of its 21st issue since its launch in 2003.The magazine has grown phenomenally and is now circulated to 5,000 schools and colleges throughout the country. It has an estimated readership of 250,000 students.

ETC set out to change the face of school publications by speaking to students in a voice they could relate to, about subjects that mattered to them, without losing sight of its primary aim of promoting learning and careers opportunities. The magazine has achieved its objective, covering a wide range of issues of interest to young people from frank discussions with Tony Blair about tuition fees and the state of the country to exclusive interviews with celebrities like The Kaiser Chiefs, the Sugababes and Kevin Spacey; from the history of Marmite to the rising problem of cyber-bullying among young people in the UK.

"ETC has established itself as the leading youth careers title, priding itself on increasing awareness amongst 16 to 18 year olds, and those who advise them, of the huge number of choices open to them," explains Emma Stratton, editor of ETC)."The key to our success is never to compromise on quality and independence, while retaining an essentially positive and inspiring tone. We want our readers to get out and make the most of their potential, to grow into empowered and informed young adults who live life to the full. Teachers, staff and other careers advisors have recognised this and happily promoted the magazine on our behalf.

"The continued success of ETC has proved that our approach of not 'talking down' to young people works. They won't bother reading second-rate material, so that's not what we give them. We plan to continue to develop to meet the needs of our readers, and we're currently working on a brand new design for the magazine and the launch of a new website."

ETC aims to equip young people to go out into the world by giving advice on all sorts of practical questions such as how to put together a CV, pass a driving test or cook a roast dinner; and help with studies, relationships and other general life issues. In addition, the magazine features an extensive careers section where teenagers can explore a huge range of options from animal husbandry to accounting, or marine engineering to art and design.
