The 2008 Legal and Medical Conference will take place on Thursday 13 March at the Tower Hotel London and is aimed at professionals working in personal injury and clinical negligence. With a keynote address from Matthias Kelly QC on the calculation of future loss in claims, the programme will include a host of influential speakers examining topical legal-medical issues.
Chaired by Eliot Woolf of Outer Temple Chambers, the theme for the conference - 'Striking a Balance' - will also cover topics such as costs and funding, periodical payments, and rehabilitation. Gregory Treverton-Jones QC will provide an update on claims management regulation, almost a year after the regulatory body was established. Stephen Ashcroft, an authority on structuring settlements, will speak on periodical payments, and AvMA-s Peter Walsh will look back at the ways in which the handling of clinical negligence claims has changed over the 25 years of AvMA-s existence.
Other speakers include: Amanda Ashton of Compass Costs, who will speak about care and service versus profit; David Bingham, IPRS UK, who will look at high profile sports injuries; Jason Smart of Elite Insurance will consider the past, present and future of ATE insurance; and Mike Doyle of Doyle Raizner will compare UK and USI PI markets. The conference will include a panel session.
As well as providing excellent opportunities for debate and networking, the conference is accredited for six CPD hours. The headline sponsor is Elite Insurance Company Ltd, and the silver sponsors are Alexander Samuel & Co, Medical Direct Group, and Just Costs Ltd. The conference is organised in partnership with CPD Webinars.
Jackie Boole, Commercial Director at event organiser Barker Brooks Media, said, "This year's conference will build on the success of our first Legal and Medical Conference last year, which proved an excellent forum for practitioners to debate current legal-medical issues. We have again attracted an impressive range of expert speakers, who are able to comment with authority and insight on some of the current 'hot topics' in the industry."
